Physicians in Europe

Evaluation of Different Aspects and Types of Existing Rules and Regulations of the Medical Profession in European States

This project explores several aspects of regulation of the medical profession in the European member states and other European states (Switzerland, Norway, Iceland). It is part of a wider, important study on regulations and their effects on markets.

In order to collect and compile the types of existing rules and regulations of the medical profession in Europe, we conducted a postal survey. The questions on the survey encompassed different aspects of regulations, ranging from rules on the qualification of physicians, on specialisation and requirements to practice to professional conduct and renumeration.

Based on the survey results, we will analyse the sources of law and the existing types of rules and regulations in order to get a deeper understanding of the regulatory systems of the medical profession in the European states.

The Survey:

The survey is addressed to legal experts involved in the topic of regulation in medical councils, medical chambers and professional associations.
